Blog EntryMet Mr Alain Compost; rethinking of my calling..Feb 6, '06 12:26 AM
for everyone

On end of December 2005

No seek, but I got surprising information about ALAIN COMPOST, wildlife photographer that has big concern in Indonesia nature conservation. He would give a short class about conservation photography and multimedia in Schmutzer Primate Center.

Somehow, for a moment, I was reminded that I ever wished to be like him; do a profession based on what I love (nature and animal), it may be my calling (actually I still don’t know what my calling is, I just wish wildlife will call me someday...).

So with big enthusiasms, I look for more information to join Alain's free workshop. I sent an email to Schmutzer officer, message thru multiply, or any way, I told some friends to join the class and set a plan to go with them (indeed I will still come even just me).

But having those efforts to come to the class, my creative director’s calling (that I was selected to participate “24 hours” Young Guns Competition) made me merely not be able to come to Alain’s class. Disappointed, I was. For several days, I wish not to participate the young guns, but I couldn’t. I’d gave my partner my word before I knew Alain’s class, and a word is a must.

Well, I didn’t come, but I sent Mr. Alain Compost a set of postcard. (Lucky me to have friends that came, specially mas Sony that gave it to Mr. Compost). Then it’s true, when you see a door closed, another door is just open. Without an intention, I know mas Koes from Schmutzer (Hahaha.. perhaps since I was too “aggressive” to ask about the class). A lot of discussion, share and learning I got. Moreover, a SMS came from Mr. Compost; my card was responded! (My cards if arranged in order would told a question "bla..bla..how to be a wildlife artist?". ) His first SMS was,

if you want to be a wildlife artist.. Love wildlife first, do it for a purpose and be ready to accept that everything you do might not be enough to stop the destruction of the nature you love so much.

Somehow it seem not encouraging for me, but I know what he said was true. I’m getting to understand it by involving the “heavy” discussion yesterday (actually I was much listening than being active). Mas Koes and I visited Mr. Compost’s house in Bogor, we met Mr. Compost and mas Salim from Wanamedia. They were such people who do, live, breath in same land; nature conservation. They started the discussion with topic they know well. But I wasn’t and I don’t. It was hard enough (but I love challenges) to understand whole conversation at the time!! Hehehe.. There were too much info, from new people names, institutions, places, idioms to many facts, opening eyes-things...

but I’m glad I was there! I thank! It may be a new start for…for.. I don’t know what for...

i just brought to home,
a homework,
rethinking of my calling...
